Debian and the Beagle Board

After having read about the board a bit and getting courious, at LinuxTag 2008 i could try the real hardware for the first time. They had a demo running which showed a full Enlightenment desktop and everything seemed quite fast. I would guess the performance is similar to a P3 1GHz. The demo was based on OpenEmbedded, but with a system that is as fast as a few year old desktop system, i would of course prefer to run Debian.
For those wondering what the Beagle Board is:
- based on the TI OMAP 3530 with 128MB RAM and 256MB NAND
- HDMI (DVI-D) and S-Video output
- Audio
- SD-Card
- USB 2.0 Host and OTG
- can be powered by USB
So i applied for a free Beagle Board and have been lucky enough to receive one. When it has arrived i'll work on getting the board-specific software into Debian and porting Debian-Installer.

warum hast du eigentlich deinen englischen Blog unter einer deutschen Domain?
Wehe du machst irgendeinen Mist und kommst auf eine Terrorliste, dann bin ich ja im Arsch!

Debian/arm is a disaster
koen Kooi (not verified) — Mon, 2008-07-21 20:34Running debian on arm is currently a disaster:
So instead of a system that is fast enough for 720p mpeg4 video, you get a system that can hardly play an mp3 without skipping and needs 10 times more space.
beagle for debian
Riku Voipio (not verified) — Sat, 2008-06-28 18:19Afaik the only board-specific piece of software is the kernel, which should eventually fold mainline. So what needs to be done is getting a omap3 kernel to Debian.
If you are satisfied with a externally built kernel, just installing a debian to a SD card should be enough to use Debian on it. people working on the board can be found at #beagle on freenode irc, and debian/armel people on #debian-arm in oftc network. Allways glad to have more porters :)
