The long wait is over!
Jan Lübbe — Sat, 2007-08-04 12:32
Today i've recieved a mail from James Troup saying that my Debian account has just been created! This means my NM-Process took about 16 months (6 months in "Awaiting DAM Approval").
I'd like to thank Christoph Haas as my long term Sponsor and Advocate. He has been a tremendous help with all sorts of Debian and packaging releated questions. I also want to thank Christoph Berg for being my Application Manager and making that part of the NM-Process fun. :)
My first upload will be for BitBake to include a patch pull from upstream SVN.

Intel releases PowerTOP
Jan Lübbe — Sun, 2007-05-13 13:32
Intel has just released a new utility called PowerTOP. It uses the new statistics made available by the 2.6.21 kernel and shows which processes (or devices) cause the processor to wake up.
Keith Packard said that he managed to increase the battery life of his Panasonic R4 laptop from 4 to almost 7 hours.
I'll try to reproduce his success with my X60s. If you want to do the same and use debian, it is already packaged uploaded.

Neo1973 hardware delayed
Jan Lübbe — Mon, 2007-02-12 12:38
Sean Moss-Pultz has just announced that the Neo1973 hardware has been delayed by some necessary changes and bad luck. The software will be released anyway, so we'll be able to take a look at it soon.
I had hoped to take it with me to FOSDEM, so instead we'll work on OpenEZX some more. Perhaps we can show you something working. :)

Let's start blogging again
Jan Lübbe — Mon, 2007-01-29 01:10
After a long break i'll start blogging again. :) All the software has been updated to the current versions and it seems to be working.
Yesterday i've recieved the confirmation that i'm in the Neo1973 Phase 0 early access program. Yay!
When the phone has arrived i'll write a short review and start working on some interesting applications (i.e. an OpenStreetMap client).

Code for MD4/5 collisions released
Jan Lübbe — Wed, 2005-11-16 17:13
The code needed to create two bitstreams with the same hash is public. It takes about 45 minutes to find a MD5 collision. This does not allow to create a bitstream which maps to a given hash, so md5 is still safe for signing cleartext. However you can make two different documents in PostScript/PDF which have the same hash (more details). Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 (not SHA-1). MD5 collisions could also be used as "watermarks" for mp3 files (players skip invalid data) to track their distribution on p2p networks.

Gallery with bins and wgHTML
Jan Lübbe — Sat, 2005-10-22 01:27
I've been using bins for my photo galleries for some time now. It doesn't have all the features that Gallery has, but i like the clean themes. To use bins (which generates static html files) with Drupal, i use a module called wgHTML. wgHTML takes the static html files and wraps them with the Drupal theme and menu. After fixing some problems with the bins theme, the gallery looks quite nice :)
